ANNUAL CPTS-IIDE WORKING CONFERENCE 2010
HELD FROM APRIL 13 - 16, 2010 IN MAARSSEN, THE NETHERLANDS

The 16th annual CPTS-IIDE working conference was held
at the beautiful venue "Priorij Emmaus" in Maarssen, the Netherlands.
The Centre for Philosophy, Technology and Social systems (CPTS) was established in 1996 to formalize cooperation between scholars from several universities and institutions in various countries. In this cooperation existing resources are shared while administrative control remains at the different instititutions.
IIDE and CPTS cooperate in academic activities such as the annual working conference. On a regular bases, this results in publications like books (e.g. From Our Side) and Proceedings of the Annual Working Conference.

I CPTS General information
The Centre for Philosophy, Technology and Social systems (CPTS) was established in March 1996 to
formalize cooperation between scholars from several universities whose teaching and research are in
the fields of information technology, the management and systems sciences, and the philosophy of
these disciplines. The cooperation of the participating organisations is focused on the following
objectives:
* to carry out interdisciplinary research into the management and design of technology and social
systems giving high priority to ethical and other normative issues;
* to promote the practical application of the research ideas developed at the Centre and vice versa
to learn from the input from practice for further research work;
* to make available an international and interdisciplinary learning environment for doctoral students
of the participating universities.
II Profile of the annual working conferences
Objective
To bring together staff and students from different areas of interest and from different universities.
This enables students to work together in an international environment, exploring new avenues in
interdisciplinary studies. At the same time they are profiting from expertise which is not available in
their home university.
Method
Ultimately a week before the conference each participant will receive a full set of the conference
papers by e-mail. It is expected that all the papers have been read before their presentation at the
conference. To promote discussion participants are invited to act as a mentor for other participants. A
schedule for the mentoring/review procedure with some instructions is circulated one or two weeks
before the conference. The written mentoring/review reports have to be delivered just after arrival.
Primarily for the students long paper-sessions are available which provide extra time for discussion
after presentation. Feed-back sessions are organized in which the participants get the opportunity to
clarify how they intend to go on with their research incorporating the critical comments raised in the
discussions after the first presentation.
