This book project - the third to be initiated by the IIDE - kicked off with a gathering of African authors on the campus of the University of the Free State, South Africa, on 25 November 2008. The book aims to be a broad exploratory study in the area of small entrepreneurial development (SED), focusing on the interaction between technology and economy in the development process and also its relationship with policy. Households, practices, alliances - From technology transfer to intercultural development
This second book project hosted a last “peer review seminar” for the South African authors on the campus of the University of the Free State, South Africa, on 26 and 27 November 2008. A similar closing seminar for the involved European authors will be held on 30 January 2009 in Amsterdam.
The book investigates the influence of modern technology on globalisation, and thereby on the interaction between cultures. It poses the question of whether technology is just an instrument that can be used in various local and cultural settings in order to enlarge the quality of human life, or whether it is more than that.
